Introducing Vintage Dotty, A Fabulously Fun Catering Caravan!

 photo img_2013_07_26_0179_zpse8a37fe2.jpg

If you came to the last Hampshire Bridal Boot Sale you may have spied Vintage Dotty, a catering caravan with a difference out on the lawn. Dotty will be back this Sunday 16th Feb at Cams Hall, ready to show guests an alternative approach to event refreshments in the cutest possible way!

We caught up with Dotty's owner Rebecca to find out the latest from this fab concept.

What's new for Vintage Dotty in 2014?
Well where to start? We have some fantastic new events lined up for this summer but we are super excited about all of our 2014 weddings, 2 of which were booked following Dotty's visit at the last HBBS at Cams Hall. Also new to our menu for this season is Dotty's delicious hot pancakes served with a choice of topping and sprinkles....they are to die for and offer and fun and quirky alternative to cake and ice creams.

Is there a regular source of inspiration you turn to/what's inspiring you for 2014?
Being a wedding caterer we are always inspired by the latest wedding trends with rustic, shabby chic and vintage featuring heavily in recent years. But ultimately our customers inspire us the most and our ever more adventures brides & grooms never let us down in their quest to make their wedding unique and personal to them and we love coming up with new ideas to help them archive this.

Was there an event or wedding in 2013 that you really loved? Could you tell us a bit about it?
Our most memorable event of 2013 has to be the Wayne Hemmingway Vintage Car Boot sale which was held at London's South Bank Centre. The concept was essentially to pair vintage car owners (who were selected via a curator) with a seller of vintage memorabilia, clothing, accessories or household goods. There was also street theatre, live music performances and of course bundles of street foodies. We had a fantastic time and over 8000 people attended on the day so it was a huge success. The next event will be in March and is set to take place over 2 days with even more vintage traders and we will be returning to serve up lots of tea and cake with Dotty!

If you could give a bride-to-be one piece of advice for planning their wedding, what would it be?
Stay calm and never go to bed angry!

Could you recommend another supplier you love for our readers and why?
Oh that's a hard one! OK, from a food perspective we really LOVE the Tinderbox which is a beautifully handcrafted teardrop trailer that houses a wood fired oven perfect for serving stone baked pizzas or slow roasted organic meats. Our non-food recommended supplier is Party Bales who supply bales of hay for seating and or props for that perfect rustic wedding!

Catching Up With Paper Magpie Stationery

 photo HampshireBridalBootSale_201316_zps23f8bb2a.jpg

Those of you who read the blog regularly or visit the Hampshire Bridal Boot Sale may recognise the work of Sera from Paper Magpie. We introduced her here and she's since gone on to be our right-hand-woman, designing our stationery and website. We recently caught up with Sera to see what 2014 has in store... don't miss her stall this coming Sunday 16th Feb at Cams Hall!

Also, if you're interested in seeing what our brides will be bringing along on Sunday, don't miss a few sneak previews on our Facebook page!

What's new for Paper Magpie in 2014?
This year I have re-branded and I am changing my outlook entirely! I want to stay true to the design style I love and I know that everyone will love these designs too - I hope to be debuting these at HBBS!

Is there a regular source of inspiration you turn to/what's inspiring you for 2014?
Adventures! I love to travel and I have a *slight* obsession with travel books - I turn through the pages and I see colours and trips and experiences I just can't wait to get onto paper!

What's your favourite thing to design?
Bespoke weddings! If a couple come at me with a long list of weird and wonderful personal touches they want to immortalise in their stationery I love it! Dogs, cats, kids, props, places, colours, flowers, cars, I've done it all!

If you could give a bride-to-be one piece of advice for planning their wedding, what would it be?
Do it your way - don't feel tied to traditions! Make your own traditions or just throw it out the window - you don't need chair covers and a garter - do what you like! My husband decided that we didn't want to commit to one wedding ring so we get a new one every year or so because thats what we wanted!

Could you recommend another supplier you love for our readers and why?
I love Mia Photography, she's not only a good friend but also such a talent! She has a knack of making couples relax and seeing the picture before she snaps - its something I admire and am sneakily jealous of all at once!

Five Minutes with Smallpiece Catering

 photo SteveJenampSmallpieceCatering_zpsdf78de39.jpg

We love a good catch up with Ann and Gemma from Smallpiece Catering. Not only are they two of the loveliest ladies you'll ever meet, but they are also consummate professionals whom we've worked with first-hand. They ensured our very own Sarah-Leigh's wedding ran like clockwork plus they're our regular partners in the Hampshire Bridal Boot Sale, providing delicious treats in our pop-up tea rooms. Come and meet them next Sunday 16th February at Cams Hall!

What's new for Smallpiece Catering in 2014?
We are currently expanding into another premises with a separate kitchen, store , office & tasting area which will allow us to run everything from there. We are also working with three new venues this year.

Is there a 2014 event you're really looking forward to?
Our Birthdays?! The Big 50 & 30 & Climbing Snowdon?! Sorry, business related.... it is hard to single out an event, all of our weddings continue to be unique but we do have a wedding in March where the menu has been planned around the food from a visual aspect & is all about the food being displayed so this is very exciting, especially for the Chefs who get to do things very differently.

Do you have any regular sources of inspiration for food and events, any blogs or magazines?
Ann loves a trip to the Fruit & Veg Market to see what is in season and to barter. She also always refers back to her trusty old cookbooks but just adds a modern twist to recipes.

Is there a 2013 wedding or event you recall that you really loved?
Impossible to call, 2013 was an amazing year for us & we were very blessed to meet & work with the people that we did. Especially a few that will remain life long friends.

Could you recommend another supplier you love for our readers and why?
Still Moving DJ's.... These guys are incredible! Their unusual & different approach to music, DJing & performing is like no other, they even get the most unlikely suspects on to the dance floor.

Hi Lydia! What's new for you in 2014?
I’m going to be unveiling a gorgeous new look later in the spring including a sparkly new website, I’m so excited to be having a little make over and can’t wait to share it with you all! I’m also introducing my own guide to wedding planning for my brides drawing on my experience from almost 100 weddings and sharing my favourite tips and wedding suppliers.

What are you most looking forward to in 2014?
I’m so excited to have my first destination wedding in Tuscany this year- it’s been on my dream location list for ages and I can’t wait to shoot in the gorgeous golden Tuscan sunsets.

Where are you currently turning to for inspiration?
Pinterest is my guilty pleasure and I have loads of boards where I keep all my inspiration tucked away for shoot ideas in the future. Even though I’ve been married for nearly three years I’m still obsessed with wedding blogs but I also like to gather inspiration for my work offline & away from the wedding world. I’m a bit of a movie buff, and cinematography often really inspires my work- most recently Walter Mitty has inspired me to shoot some more film again and the little scene where Walter looks at Cheryl through his negative glasses covering her with shimmering light gave me some creative ideas!!

Is there a 2013 wedding or event you recall that you really loved?
I had an amazing year last year, I was so lucky to work with 34 lovely couples each with totally different weddings. I had weddings in London pubs, tipis in the countryside, weddings on the beach, it’s so hard to choose just one! I did one last minute booking on Friday 13th in Southampton Art Gallery. I’m usually booked about a year in advance but as it was so last minute I had virtually no expectations. It was a tiny wedding and wasn’t especially detail heavy. I love me some paper pom poms and a bit of DIY, but what was so lovely was that the couple were just so relaxed and laid back, which meant they just didn’t sweat the small stuff. It was clear just how much they loved each other and the groom sobbed through the vows.- I’m such a sucker for the love! When you strip away all the details and fuss the love shines through. It was simple but perfect. And the venue was really unique and brilliant for creative photos!

Could you recommend another supplier you love for our readers and why?
I really love Victoria Fergusson Accessories. Her work is so beautiful and intricate. She hand makes each piece of jewellery with such attention to detail. She also does hair and make-up, and her bridal hair up was some of the best I saw last summer- just the right amount of elegance mixed with a casual undone look.
